Installation / Adjustment

Installation

Tools Required: Power driver with Phillips head, Phillips screw driver, 3/8” End Wrench or Socket, Scissors

1. Place snowshoe on a flat work surface with one edge of the snowshoe close to the edge of your work surface. Remove the lock nuts from the two machine screw bolts in the front of the footpad. Also remove the flat washers and the Ice cleat. The Pilgrim™ bindings are designed to be installed with the ladder strap side of the closure to the inside of the foot and the ratchet catch to the outside of the foot. Lay the harness assembly across the top of the snowshoe in the appropriate orientation. The toe of the foot pad should be pointing forward towards the front of the snowshoe.

2. The binding should be towards the back of the open toe pivot space provided on your snowshoe. This will allow the toe of your foot-ware to pivot into the open toe space provided when in motion. It is important to be slightly forward of the back lacing so as not to pierce the lacing with the binding attachment screw. Use a tape measure to align the approximate center of the snowshoe with the center of the foot pad. The binding attachment screws provided are self tapping. No pilot hole is required. Using a power screw driver with a phillips driver, fold the binding strap over the edge of the snowshoe frame and drive one screw through the hinge strap and into the frame.

3. Rotate the snow shoe up onto the edge which you just attached so the attached side is down towards the table surface. Stretch the binding strap tightly across the snowshoe to the other side of the frame. Be sure your footpad is still in the correct orientation with the snowshoe frame. Drive a hinge attachment screw into this side of the frame.

4. Roll the snowshoe over so the backside is up. Hold the foot pad machine screws in position with one hand while pulling one hinge strap into position over the open end of the machine screws. Use scissors to clip off any excess strap material.

5. Overlap the second hinge strap and pull into position on top of the first strap. Replace the Ice Cleat, flat washers and lock nuts back into position. Tighten the machine screw and locknut with a Phillips screw driver and 3/8” wrench. Keep tension on the overlapped hinge strap while tightening. Tighten until the end of the machine screw is even with the end of the lock nut. Do not over-tighten. Use the scissors to clip off any remaining excess hinge strap material.

Adjusting Your Binding to Fit Your Footwear

Tools Required: Phillips Screwdriver

Your Pilgrim™ binding is adjustable to fit a variety of footwear. The binding will adjust to fit a women’s size 5 snow boot to a men’s size 15. The bindings come from the factory pre-adjusted to a men’s size 8. The bindings will fit the greatest variety of sizes in this position, due to the integrated adjustment in the Heel Strap and Toe Clasp closure. At this position, the binding will fit a women’s size 8 to a men’s size 11. Some integrated adjustment of the Heel Strap may be required. Check your footwear in the binding before performing any mechanical adjustment.

Mechanical Adjustment:
Heel Strap – To adjust the Heel Strap, remove the 3 machine screw bolts, which attach it to the harness section. 2 bolts are located on the Heel Strap, and 1 is on the Heel Strap Buckle. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the bolt then the trim washer. The strap/buckle is now free. Pull the tee-nut from the backside of the harness. Be careful as the tee-nuts are barbed to hold them in the elastomeric material. Move the tee-nut towards the front of the footpad to make the binding smaller and towards the back to make it larger. Push the barbed portion of the tee-nut into the elastomeric material. Replace the strap/buckle, trim washer, and bolt. Tighten all bolts evenly. It is not necessary to move both the strap and the buckle. You may be able to achieve your desired fit by only moving one or the other.

Toe Clasp – To adjust the Toe Clasp, remove the 2 machine screw bolts which attach it to the harness section. 1 bolt is located on the ladder strap and 1 is on the ratchet buckle. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the bolt and then the trim washer. The strap/buckle is now free. The ratchet buckle has a washer shim under the buckle. Pull the tee-nut from the backside of the harness. Be careful, as the tee-nuts are barbed to hold them in the elastomeric material. Replace the shim washer, strap/buckle, trim washer, and bolt. Tighten all bolts evenly. It is not necessary to move both the strap and the buckle. You may be able to achieve your desired fit by only moving one or the other.

Setting Bindings for Your Footwear:
The Pilgrim™ Binding has integrated adjustment in the Heel Strap and Toe Clasp. Place your foot on the footpad with the toe of your footwear aligned slightly in front of the footpad (1/2” – 3/4”). Hold the footwear in position and adjust the Heel Strap with the hook & loop closure to fit snuggly against the back of your footwear. This is our “Set & Forget” Heel Strap. Once you have adjusted if for your footwear, it will require no further adjustment unless the size of the footwear is changed. The harness will naturally open and close slightly as you push your foot in and out of the Heel Strap. This allows for easy entrance and exit. Push your foot firmly back against the heel strap. Reach down and feed the ladder strap of the toe clasp into the ratchet buckle. Push until you hear a click. Use the ratchet toggle at the top of the buckle to ratchet the toe clasp closed. The ratcheting toggle will provide a significant amount of closure pressure. There is no need to over tighten. Repeat the same process for your other foot.

Adjustment is now complete.
